The classic scammer makes a fake profile, takes your money and vanishes. On Truede every seller is eID-verified, and your money stays in escrow until the purchase is fully completed.

You only verify when you actually take part, not to look around. The eID check runs through external partners: we keep no ID data ourselves, just the unique key we need. Sellers also go through a legally required check at their first payout, run by the payment provider.

One short eID check when you join in.

Listing an item, placing a bid or buying something? Then you prove once with your Belgian eID that you’re a real person. Your account stays verified after that.

03 · meet or ship

Meet or ship, your call.

Meet up locally hand to hand, or have it shipped with protection. If you ship, your money stays in escrow until the purchase is fully completed, and we can step in for damage, loss or disputes.

What we do and don’t do

Our promises

No mission statement, no fine print. Eight things Truede stands for and eight ways we differ from the rest.

  1. 01

    Belgian eID verification.

    Every account is verified via Belgian eID. It’s your first line of defence against fraud: you know the person on the other side is real, not a bot or a fake identity.

  2. 02

    We don’t share sensitive info with others.

    National number, ID number, address: never stored in readable form, and never visible to other users. We keep a digital fingerprint: enough to know it’s you, not enough to identify you elsewhere. Other users see only your username and verified status. So never your real name, unless you choose to share it.

  3. 03

    One account per person.

    One eID gives you exactly one Truede account. Banned users can’t come back with a new email address: it’s the eID that’s blocked, not the mailbox.

  4. 04

    Truede protection for shipping.

    Sending a purchase? Truede holds your money safely until the package arrives. Mandatory for shipping. Not needed for in-person handovers.

  5. 05

    No resellers.

    Truede is for private individuals. No businesses, no dropshippers, no shops dressed up as neighbours. For thrift stores and sustainable initiatives we may later open a separate space. The focus stays on transactions between private individuals.

  6. 06

    Real items, your own photos.

    Photos must be real photos: your own items, no stock photos, no catalogue scans.

  7. 07

    No tracking cookies.

    No Google Analytics, no Meta pixels, no ad networks. We don’t follow you around the web, and we don’t share your behaviour with third parties. What you do on Truede stays on Truede.

  8. 08

    No targeted ads.

    Truede never shows ads based on who you are or what you did. To keep Truede sustainable, we may show contextual ads. They’re based on the category you’re browsing, not on your data. Paying users can switch this off.
